#WFH Are You Ever Going Back to the Office?

Organizations are no longer defined by the limits of bricks and mortar. As individuals move to the virtual frontier, organizations benefit by supporting them. This empowers the individual and, in turn, furthers the goals and objectives of the organization. If individuals don’t change, organizations can’t change. Organizations, teams, corporations and institutions are made up of people. Clear expectations and limits help the virtual worker become aware of the organization’s expectations, what is acceptable and why it is not.

No one changes anyone who does not want to change. Leadership models and theory won’t work if people are not inspired. In order to change, it is essential that individuals recognize and deal with challenges. It helps if they do not have to do this alone. Many times, especially in the virtual environment, workers are trying to deal with issues without much support. Meaningful and helpful encouragement from the organization and other individuals can increase the motivation. Performance evaluations and reviews, constructive feedback (both positive and negative) and support services can make all the difference. Most individuals struggle with change at some time in their lives. For many years, the established scientific community told us we could not change as we got older because our brains were fixed. We became more and more hardwired and fixed in our ways. Thanks to neuroscience and research in recent years, we know this is not true. The term “neuroplasticity” describes changes in the brain caused by changes in behavior, environment, physical injury and neural processes. We now know that changes in the individual are possible.
