#AI@Work: HUGE Impact on Education
AI will have enormous impacts on education, learning and talent development. In K-12, Higher Education and workplace learning, AI has barely scratched the surface. AI in education comes with opportunities and many challenges. AI technologies are being adopted at an unprecedented rate. AI will provide learner support. AI can interpret data. It can examine the role of the teacher or expert and AI can provide one-on-one tutoring. AI will provide us with insights on learning. It will measure innate characteristics like curiosity and creativity. AI will boost creative and higher-level learning. New pedagogies and research will be needed to take advantage of AI. AI is unquestionably going to have a very significant impact on how and what we learn. Humans will be increasingly working next to and with very smart machines.
AIEd (Artificial Intelligence in Education) is a broad topic. AIEd is finally picking up steam. It has been researched for over 30 years. Only recently has it been coupled with an understanding of what AI really is, what it can deliver and how it does what it does. Many simple versions of AI applications are already used in schools and HR departments. EDM (Educational Data Mining) makes predictions about your success or failure in the classroom or workplace. AIEd is not smart technology that adapts to what is liked rather than what is learned. It is not smart administration without more efficient learning. AIEd is smart technology that impacts the learning of every learner. It supports the teaching and training professions.
AIEd is in the very early stages. It needs to be further developed to allow for better learning experiences. Incorporating learning science is an integral part of the advancement of AIEd. It offers the possibility of learning that is more personalized, flexible, engaging and inclusive. It has the possibility of closing achievement gaps. It can help to increase teacher retention and development. It can help us learn how people learn.
