#AI@Work: From Predictable to Interpretive?

In the past employers created a stable job role that had a written description. Jobs will shift from predictable to interpretive. The new job skills will be more about listening, creativity and responding, not about meeting any written structured requirements. New “super jobs” will have titles like analyst, manager, director, designer and architect. This is going to require so much more than just rewriting job descriptions. It will require supporting human skills like imagination, curiosity and empathy.

The narrow view of skills, activities and tasks just won’t cut it without highly specific roles. Organizations will need to broaden their perspectives. They will need to open up their level of trust to support human communications and ingenuity. Job descriptions will need to look at results, outputs and problems solved. Terms like supervise and manage will be replaced by motivate and engage. Learning and development will be a daily activity in the regular flow of work. This will often happen in real time. Organizations will be challenged to reimagine work.

Ready or not here it comes! New technologies are impacting everything we do. They will determine the long-term success (or not) of companies in almost all sectors of the global economy. There will be new business models and more new technologies. Organizations will have to change current best practices and create new ways to operate. At the core of this is the belief that they can change. HR and L&D (Learning and Development) are essential to this transformation. In order to move the needle on business performance there will be a need for constant training. Companies will need to create a new learning centered culture. Technology is to improve human lives and organizations. Too often organizations focus on the features of that technology and not on how the technology is implemented. The focus needs to be on the solution not on the technology. It doesn’t matter if it is AI, IOT or a simulator, the technologies are here to improve human performance.
