#WFH:Do You Respect Your Boss?

The reason management had to watch everyone at work, or clock them in and out, is because workers could not be trusted to do the job. It was a management-against-labor world. The communication was from the top down.
Trust is always an issue in virtual management. You need to be more accountable, more adaptable and less offensive. The rule of thumb is to be specific in what you want and how you express it. You want to be light and fun, but watch the humor. Like sarcasm, humor can easily be misunderstood, so it might be best to avoid it altogether
(Roebuck & Britt, 2002).

Communication is very important in a common vision. Social networks, crowdsourcing and the Internet have drastically changed the way we communicate with each other and the way we spread information. This, in turn, has changed the way we think about power. Advancements in technology continue to make it easier and easier to communicate with each other. At the same time, these communications are less and less private. Everyone knows at least one story of a famous person who has been caught sending sexually explicit photos electronically. Everyone also knows what it is like to be watched. You go on a website and the following week you begin to receive emails for the same kind of product as the one you were searching for on the Internet. Most of us understand that our communications online are anything but private. Communications are both less private and more horizontal than they were in the past. So, to communicate a common vision, it has to be one that everyone buys into and respects.
